By far the most trending video on the Anilyzer, Felix Sputnik’s walkcycle mash has animators frame by frame-ing through this multiple times a day for the past two weeks. Take a look if you haven’t, enjoy đŸ˜‰

Asterix & Obelix Animation Reel (Salem)

Wednesday, August 26th, 2015

Some crazy french animation here for you, from the recent Asterix and Obelix film. Although the audio is in french, some of the character animation particularly around 1:01 is a really fun mix of cartoony + subtle achieved by moving only specific elements in a cartoony way. I particularly like his change of emotion transferred via the de-escalation of eye darts.

Preston Blair Compilation

Friday, August 21st, 2015

This weeks most viewed clip is Preston Balir’s compilation of work. Theres really a great variety of work here, from cartoony cycles on 2’s, to more realistic animation for the Disney features. You then jump to the diverse mix of Looney Toons-esque work and you’re set for an intense ride of animation analysis! Check it out!

BATZ

Wednesday, August 19th, 2015

Short film BATZ by Max Maleo and Aurelien Predal is a crazy hybrid of cartoony animation with a hell of a lot of squash and stretch! There are also 2D animated elements in this high adrenaline chase between a fruit bat and a carnivore bat! Both ex-Gobelin animators the two have worked at DreamWorks and Aardman. I had the pleasure to animate on this bad boy, so i might be biased, but dig through it in slow motion or frame by frame —- there is some impressive animation here by some of the artists i had the pleasure to work with!

Wreck it Ralph (Zombie)

Tuesday, August 18th, 2015

The focus of this post is specifically on the zombie in Wreck it Ralph. Even though he is essentially a cameo for a few minutes, his animation is spectacular! This was by far the clip that stood out to me the most from the Disney film. The great mix of 1’s and 2’s along with held frames that interestingly only had a few elements still moving. Take a look in slow motion on the Anilyzer!
